The sun came in an open window
delighted to bring day,
a messenger of God in heaven
to send the night away.
I paused to think upon arising,
what if the shades were down,
the sun would still be bright in heaven;
my room still wear night’s gown.
I chanced to think about men’s lives,
shut tight with gloom and sin
when all it takes is an open window
to let God’s love shine in.
