LAUDEMONT MINISTRIES

A Sensible Approach to Christian Truth

POETRY BY SHIRLEY ANNE LEONARD

Soliloquy

Published in The Promise

Therefore it is said, "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light." — Ephesians 5:14

Sleep, O fallen earth, the weary sleep
that numbs the soul. Someone weeps
for you tonight, and angels pass
through perilous skies on secret missions
from the throne.
Though night is all that you have known,
human pain and agony's groan,
you are not left in space alone.

The Promised One has come
to pay the debt of Adam's race
that they might be His own.

Sleep deeply, weary earth,
the heavy sleep of one who's labored long.
For you will wake in time to hear,
in all your hills and dales,
the joyful sound of freedom’s song.
